Am Lit: Students shared discussion questions and passages for given chapter - process completed yesterday. Read Ch 17-18 (XVII and XVIII) for Monday

Acc English 1: Discussed "Friends", "Enemies", and "Dentist". Students completed the Theme Tracker sheet. Read "On the Rainy River" and complete the cooresponding blog post.

1. Go to the “This I Believe” website - http://thisibelieve.org/. This may be easiest in another window by copying and pasting it.

2. Click on “explore”.

3. Click on “essay search”

4. Search for essays by theme or age. If theme or age does not interest you, you can repeat step #2 and click on “featured essays” or “1950s essays”.

5. Locate and read TWO essays that you find interesting.

6. Post a blog response

            a. Title and Author

            b. What is the author’s message?  

            c. What supporting details get the author’s message across?

            d. Why did you select this essay?

Am Lit: Reading Quiz Chapters 12-16. Each group of 4-5 was assigned a chapter. First, select two passages and record their significance. Second, create four questions pertaining to the chapter that requrie higher level thinking. We will discuss questions and passages tomorrow.

English 1: Introduced literature book project. Have first section read for tomorrow and role completed.

MoC: Vocab 4 given, Journal Entry 4 completed, and Introductions collected.

Am Lit: Discussed chapters 5-7 with the aid of discussion questions. Will go over them tomorrow at the beginning of class (Am Lit - 4th period). Read Chapter 8 for tomorrow.

Acc English 1: Finished informative speeches. Tomorrow we will begin Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried.

English 1: Today we finished informative speeches. Hopefully, you all learned from your peers as they presented on unique and entertaining topics. A clause assignment was distributed - due Monday, 2/22/10.

MoC: We completed a vocabulary quiz - week 3. Complete Thesis and Introduction assignment for Monday, 2/22/10.

Am Lit: Discussed chapters 1-4. If absent, get notes from peers. Homework: Read Chapters 5-7.

English 1: Informative Speeches - Tomorrow is the last day for speeches. If you have not went yet, please be prepared tomorrow.

MoC: We shared the vocabulary paragraphs that were created yesterday. Next, notes were written on the board about the basic format of an essay. Then, we focused solely on creating catchy introductions. Notes and examples were given.

Am Lit: Discussed reasons why people challenge books. Introduced The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. For tomorrow read chapters 1-4 (I-IV).

Informative Speech Requirements

Your speech will be 4-6 minutes exploring a topic of your choice. Your topic will be from one of the following areas - a. person, b. place, c. event, d. mechanism, e. process, or f. organization. It will include an introduction, supporting facts, and a conclusion. Remember to apply the criticism that you received on your last speech to this one for improvement.

This speech also has a multi-media component. Utilize a poster board, PowerPoint, podcast, video to enhance your speech.
